PSICOBLOC'23

PSICOBLOC'23 IN MONTREAL

The Psicobloc concept was born from the desire to give Montreal climbers the opportunity to experience Deep Water Soloing (a climbing discipline that involves solo climbing over water).

To this, each year the organizers of the Psicobloc Open series build a 60-foot-high artificial wall above the pool on Sainte-Hélène Island. Two identical routes are set in a mirror-image form by the Allez UP team, allowing two competitors to face off in a duel of agility and speed. The first to reach the top moves on the next round.

In addition to being a thrilling competition for climbers and an exciting show for the public, Psicobloc is a huge pool party with: dj-sets + kioskes + foodtrucks + pop-up shops + bar + games... We look forward to seeing you the weekend of September 2&3 at the Jean Drapeau Park pool.

THE PSICOBLOC

FOR ALL CLIMBERS

Do you want to take part in this unique and exciting competition? You're welcome, wether you're a route and/or bouldering climber, an amateur, a junior, a pra-climber, a professional... there's a place for everyone. And if you don't want to take part in the competition, you can sign up for the free trials to try climbing at your own pace, without the pressure of competition.

This year, Psicobloc competitors will battle it out for the title of Psicobloc Montreal 2023 champion and 1 part of the 20,000$ prize purse (details of the prize purse breakdown here).

THE PSICOBLOC

A SPECTACULAR AND SAFE COMP

The Psicobloc routes are set up to suit all climbers. Estimated ratings are 5.11 for the women's competition, 5.12 for the men's competition, and 5.10 for the off-comp tests (routes are shorter).

Psicobloc is above all a speed competition, so you need to be as strong and agile as you are strategic. On the first few rounds, we advise you to be fully faster than your opponent to learn the beta, so that can later take "risks" by involving "dynos" and "campus" in your sequence. Beware, risk also mean falling!

Fortunately, risk is measured in this competition. The aim is to enter the water as straight as possible to minimize impact on the surface and avoid flats. It's essential to be calm and focused, but don't stres: there will be several lifeguards in and around the pool at all times.

Perhaps the most intimidating aspect of Psicobloc is the lack of rope and the height. To climb in a relaxed manner without over-tightening each hold, it's essential to feel comfortable with the fall. Don't hesitate to take a fall and tame it. Once you've broken the ice, you can concentrate on your climbing and your competition.
